3 positions the Steelers should avoid early in the 2020 NFL draft

2020 is a pivotal season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. After a two-year absence from the playoffs, Pittsburgh desperately needs to get back on the winning track. The return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will help but with very little salary cap, any upgrades to the roster will have to take place via the 2020 NFL draft.

Having said that, here are three positions the Steelers need to avoid on the second day of the NFL draft.

Wide receiver

The Steelers have been somewhat linked to a couple of the top wide receivers in the upcoming draft. But with JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson and James Washington in place, looking for a speed option at wide receiver has to wait.

Running back

I won’t be a bit shocked if James Conner isn’t the starting running back in 2020. His inability to stay healthy makes him a liability as a fulltime starter. But when it comes to adding running back talent, this draft class is deep and if Benny Snell Jr. takes the starting spot, a backup can be had on the third day.

Inside linebacker

There’s a real possibility the Steelers will release Mark Barron to save salary cap space. But there should be no panic about finding his replacement. Vince Williams is more than capable of starting next to Devin Bush. Depth can be had in the final rounds since their primary role will be special teams.
