3 out of 4 stars to return for ‘Sex and the City’ revival

A new series on HBO Max will update the lives of three — not all four — of the analytical New York friends made famous by “Sex and the City.”

Instead of the original title, the new show will be called “And Just Like That ...,” HBO Max said Sunday. And while it will feature Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis), there’s no mention of Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha on the old show but has soured on at least one of her co-stars in recent years.

Michael Patrick King will return as executive producer of the series, which the streaming channel says will follow the three friends “as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”

Production on the 10 half-hour episodes is scheduled to begin in New York in late spring. “Sex and the City” ran from 1998 to 2004 on HBO and continued afterward with two theatrical movies.

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max’s head of original content.
