3 of family end lives in Karimnagar

HYDERABAD: Three of a family ended lives in a suspected suicide pact at their home in Katnapalli of Choppadandi in Karimnagar late on Sunday night. There was no suicide note but debt is suspected to be the trigger, police said.

Karimnagar police said that 54-year-old Shankaraiah, who runs a power loom, his wife Jamuna (52) and their son Sridhar (25) were found hanging from the ceiling by their neighbour on Monday. Shankaraiah had performed his daughter’s marriage last year and since then he was allegedly under financial strain, police said.

On Monday, the neighbour was asked to check on the family by Shankaraiah’s daughter Akhila after they did not pick up her calls.

The family was last seen on Sunday by locals and police said that the three might have hanged themselves later in the night.

The family had locked the main door from outside before taking the extreme step, police said.
