3 new Disneyland Genie+ features you’ll love — and 1 you probably won’t

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Disneyland continues to tweak features in the paid Genie+ line-cutting service based on visitor feedback — including three helpful new perks you’ll love and one pricey twist you probably won’t.

Disneyland has rolled out updates to its mobile app — including one this week — that make it easier for visitors to change rides, return times and party size in their Genie+ itineraries.

The Disney Genie+ service offers paid front-of-the-line access to 20 rides at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure — replacing the free FastPass service offered by the Anaheim theme parks for decades.

Lightning Lane access for two of the most popular attractions — Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers — are sold separately with prices that vary by day.

Let’s go through some recent Genie+ updates you might not be familiar with if you haven’t been keeping up with the changes to the app.

1) Disneyland visitors can modify their Genie+ selections in the app and choose from other available return time windows without canceling or rebooking their existing reservation.

You just need to use the “modify plan” button in the app to make changes to your Genie+ reservation time.

2) You can also change attractions without canceling your original booking first — but you can only choose another ride in the same park.

If you’re modifying a Matterhorn Bobsleds booking, you can make a Genie+ reservation for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland — but not the Incredicoaster over at Disney California Adventure.

3) Party sizes can be changed on Genie+ reservations by selecting the “cancel plan” button in the app.

The twist here is you can remove members of your party from a Genie+ reservation, but you can’t add to the party size.

Much like we mentioned above, members of your party can opt out of a Matterhorn booking and go on Space Mountain instead without having to cancel the Bobsleds reservation for your entire group.

4) Disneyland quietly moved to date-based pricing for Genie+ in October. That means Genie+ prices now change on a daily basis just like Disneyland ticket prices.

Genie+ prices that were fixed at $20 per day when the service launched now start at $25 a day and vary by date. And “start” is the key word here.

Genie+ has risen to $30 a day on a few select Saturdays since the change and throughout Thanksgiving week, according to Thrill Data. Expect a price spike during the upcoming Christmas holiday season — traditionally the busiest time of the year at the parks.

Disneyland has continued to evaluate and adjust Disney Genie+ since the launch of the paid service in December 2021 — which means you’ll want to make sure you have updated your smartphone to the latest version of the mobile app.
