3 nabbed in Bengaluru for robbing women at gunpoint

BENGALURU: Three persons have been arrested on the charge of stealing valuables from an apparel businessman’s house after threatening three women at gunpoint.

The accused are Manohar Singh, 30, Amith, 25, both from Jalore, Rajasthan, and Ramesh Kumar, 28, from Uttar Pradesh. All three are residents of Electronics City. One more suspect is still at large and efforts are on to arrest him. Police have recovered a pair of gold earrings and a lighter gun from them.

The gang allegedly barged into businessman Kamal Singh’s residence on Bombay Dyeing Road in Yeshwantpur around 1.20pm on March 15. There were three women in the house and the suspects threatened them with a gun and demanded cash and valuables. The women gave them 15 grams of gold and the robbers tried to snatch their mobile phones as well. But the women started screaming for help and the gang fled.

Vinayak Patil, DCP (north), formed a special team headed by Arun Nagegowda, assistant commissioner of police, and Suresh K, inspector, to crack the case.

Preliminary investigation revealed Manohar had committed a robbery in Gujarat in 2019 and was arrested. He was in jail for nearly two years as his bail pleas were rejected. He finally got bail from the Supreme Court eight months ago. He came to Bengaluru and joined a hardware shop run by his cousin in Electronics City.

He gathered details about Kamal Singh’s apparel business and hatched the robbery plan after being wrongly informed that over Rs 50 lakh cash and large quantities of gold were kept at his house.
