3 more Covid-19 deaths confirmed at Nottingham hospitals

Three more people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died across Nottingham's two hospitals - including one with no underlying health conditions.

The people were all aged between 66 and 98 years old, and they take the total number of deaths across Nottingham University Hospitals to nine.

It follows news that five people who tested positive for coronavirus at King's Mill Hospital have died in the last week.

These are the first confirmed deaths across the Sherwood Forest Hospitals' sites.

Dr Keith Girling, medical director at Nottingham University Hospitals said: “Sadly we can confirm that nine patients, that had tested positive for Covid-19, have died.”

“The patients were aged between 66 and 98, and all bar one had underlying health conditions.”

“The ninth patient died on 25 March. He was 90 years old.”

“The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

One of the three new deaths was confirmed last night. The two others were confirmed tonight.

It comes as the UK's total confirmed cases reached 14,579 on March 27, with the death toll jumping to 759.

Official figures for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are expected to be announced later this evening.

It has also been confirmed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock have tested positive for the virus.

Chris Whitty, the government's chief medical adviser, is also self-isolating after showing symptoms of Covid-19.
