The Baltimore Ravens are in town for a couple of joint practice sessions with the Philadelphia Eagles, before both teams face off in the third preseason game of the summer. The joint workouts allow both teams the opportunity to practice against different rosters in a controlled environment and Eagles head coach Doug Pederson thinks the Ravens will test his team on both sides of the ball.
With physical practices set to take place on Monday and Tuesday, here are four matchups to watch.
Carson Wentz vs. Earl Thomas
The matchup isn’t an individual one by any means, but more about Wentz having to watch and read the all-world veteran safety, Earl Thomas. Wentz faces Malcolm Jenkins on a daily basis, but Thomas is a different beast. A ballhawk with 28 career interceptions, Wentz will get some heavy-duty work during these joint practices.
Eagles DE’s vs. Baltimore offensive line
Derek Barnett and Brandon Graham will get an excellent opportunity to crash the edge while being disciplined because of the presence of Lamar Jackson. Barnett’s workload in practice has increased and two days of dealing with Ronnie Stanley should leave both guys prepared for some tough battles. Stanley has started 42 games over the past three seasons for Baltimore and is an All-Pro caliber left tackle.
Eagles WR vs. Ravens Physical Cornerbacks
DeSean Jackson and the Eagles wideout haven’t really been pushed by the Eagles cornerbacks, but that will all change this week. Jackson, Jeffery, and Agholor will get a serious test from Marlon Humphrey, Cyrus Jones, and Jimmy Smith
