Three persons, including two women, were killed on the spot and 10 others were injured when the mini-truck carrying them overturned and crashed into agricultural fields at the Horsley Hills check-post on Sunday evening.
According to the Mudivedu and B.Kothakota police, a group of villagers from Vedurukuppam mandal was on their way back from a retreat atop the hill station. When the vehicle had almost descended the hill and was about to enter the plain road, its brakes had failed, leading to the accident.
The police said the incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. Ambulances rushed to the spot and carried the injured to the government hospital at Madanapalle. Of the injured, the condition of three is said to be critical.
The bodies were shifted to the area hospital for autopsy. A case has been registered.
