May 31--A 13-year-old boy who was driving with his family on the West Side was one of at least five people injured in separate shootings since Saturday morning, police said.
The boy was a passenger in a van on the 3200 block of West Lexington Street in the Homan Square neighborhood at 2:45 p.m. Saturday when a red SUV drove up to the vehicle and someone inside began shooting, police said.
The boy was struck in the back and was driven by his family to Stroger Hospital, police said. The boy was in critical condition, police said. The driver of the SUV fled east on Lexington, police said.
In other shootings:
--Most recently, an 18-year-old man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital after he was shot on the West Side. Police said the man had been driving west in a car in the 3900 block of West Congress Parkway in East Garfield Park about 5:25 a.m. Sunday when someone in a light-colored vehicle pulled up alongside and fired shots. The man was wounded in the right shoulder and left forearm.
He was driven to Mount Sinai where his condition was stabilized early Sunday, police said. No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of Sunday morning.
--About 10:40 p.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was shot in West Englewood. The teen was walking in an alley in the 6200 block of South Hermitage Avenue when he heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. The boy was shot in the ankle. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of late Saturday.
--About 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, a 19-year-old man was shot in the head on the 2200 block of West 21st Street in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
--Saturday morning, a 20-year-old man was shot in the 3000 block of West Lexington Street in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, about two blocks east of where the 13-year-old boy was shot Saturday afternoon. The victim was walking about 7:54 a.m. when an occupant of a white Honda exited the vehicle and fired several rounds. The man was shot in both legs and was in fair condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
It was not known if the two Lexington Street shootings were related, police said.
