Three people were arrested Thursday after a reported armed robbery led to a standoff with police in southwest suburban Berwyn.

Shortly after 10 a.m., authorities were notified of an armed robbery in the 1600 block of Oak Park Avenue, Berwyn police said. No victim was found at the scene, but a witness provided a description of an armed suspect in the area.

Investigators determined the suspect barricaded himself in the basement of a home on the same block, police said. Authorities surrounded the residence and called for assistance from other area law enforcement agencies.

Officers forced their way into the residence after making multiple attempts to persuade the suspect to surrender, police said. A 26-year-old man was found hiding in the basement, and he was taken into custody.

The man was in violation of parole, and the Illinois Department of Corrections issued a warrant for his arrest, police said.

Two other people were also taken into custody during the incident, police said. Charges are pending.
