3 Gifts Drop in Price Before Christmas — AI Reveals Smart Last-Minute Buys

If timing matters for your budget, there are certain gift categories that show more reliable chances for last-minute price drops, according to ChatGPT.

Retailers use dynamic pricing during the holidays, meaning prices can move up or down based on demand and inventory levels. It’s a pricing strategy that can make waiting until the final week before Christmas worthwhile for some purchases. Here are a few ways to take advantage if you still have some last-minute shopping to do.

1. Toys That Miss the ‘Hot Gift’ List

According to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), a store that has a ton of specific items still in stock later in the season tends to put them on sale, which includes toys. ChatGPT explained retailers often mark down toys that didn’t sell well in the weeks before Christmas in an attempt to clear unsold inventory.

To save money, the AI suggested looking for mid-priced games, craft kits and plush toys rather than trending toys tied to movies or viral products.

2. Seasonal Clothing Items and Accessories

Chat GPT explained that as Christmas gets closer, some retailers reduce prices on seasonal apparel and accessories to clear racks before year-end.

According to Consumer Affairs, shoppers can find great promotions on seasonal items like pajamas, slippers and stocking stuffers on Dec. 20, also known as “Super Saturday” — the second busiest shopping day of the season after Black Friday.

3. Holiday Decor

Finally, ChatGPT pointed out that for the best price, you might want to avoid purchasing holiday decor until after Dec. 25. Typically, the best discounts on holiday-related items will be found starting once the holiday itself is over.

However, if you must buy before then, stores like Michael’s, Target and Walmart may have 40% to 60% off on artificial Christmas trees, lights and other holiday decor from mid-December until Christmas, per AARP.
