If the Pittsburgh Steelers are serious about winning a Super Bowl while they still have Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback they must act now. This means they must seek out players who can win now and not bank on rookies to develop quickly enough while the window to win closes.
ESPN recently listed some free agents teams should covet and three of them would be the types of players the Steelers should open up the checkbook for.
Tre Boston | Safety
After crushing it with the Chargers in 2017, Boston was terrific while playing 85 percent of the Cardinals’ defensive snaps last season. The 26-year-old deserves a pay raise and a multiyear deal.
Boston was a guy many Steelers’ fans and writers lobbied for prior to Pittsburgh opting for Terrell Edmunds in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. With Morgan Burnett potentially moving on, Boston would be an ideal signing to give the Steelers three starter-quality safeties for sub packages.
Bryce Callahan | Cornerback

He can match routes inside of the numbers and play the ball at the point of attack. Plus, Callahan has a good feel for blitzing in substitution-package pressure schemes.
Many will say the Steelers have their nickel cornerback with Mike Hilton. But he took a step back in 2018 and wasn’t the coverage player he’d been. Callahan is a guy people inside Chicago love and think he can start on the boundary as well.
Pierre Desir | Cornerback

The 2018 season marked a breakout year for the 28-year-old defensive back, who bounced around the NFL before emerging as a starter in Indianapolis. After a consistent campaign that was capped by a strong performance in the playoffs, Desir should draw interest across the league.
The top guy on this list for the Steelers is Desir. The Steelers need a starter-quality cornerback to pair up with Joe Haden and Pittsburgh must recognize they have to pay for one. Desir is better than any cornerback in the draft, especially for the next two seasons.
