Three Egyptian ministers have recently announced that they had contracted the novel coronavirus, raising the overall number of cabinet members infected with the virus to four since the outbreak.
Official statements and media reports said Justice Minister Omar Marwan, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait and Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamea have tested positive for COVID-19 and are all recovering.
Gamea is currently working from home and is expected at the ministry soon.
She has not worked from the ministry since Feb. 13 due to her infection, according to the state-owned Akhbar Alyoum newspaper.
Meanwhile, Maait’s condition is stable, according to sources that assured the minister is self-isolating at home, and taking all necessary medicines according to the ministry of health protocol.
The government has yet to comment on the condition of the three officials.
On Sunday, Egypt reported 608 new coronavirus cases, bringing the tally to 178,151. It confirmed 55 new deaths, raising the toll to 10,353.
In June, Minster of State for Information Osama Heikal announced he has contracted the virus and said he has self-isolated after he came in contact with a coronavirus (COVID-19) patient.
The government has signed contracts to buy 40 million doses of vaccines for 20 million citizens.
