The Titans got off to a good start in their preseason debut, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 27-10.
In that game, the Titans defense looked strong, holding the Eagles offense to less than 250 yards.
Week 2 of the preseason has the New England Patriots coming to town for the Titans’ first home game of the year. The Titans will need to build off of last week’s success, and clean up a few errors from Week 1 to come out victorious.
Here are 3 defensive keys to victory for the Titans.
Clean up tackling

While the Titans had an impressive showing on defense against the Eagles, their tackling was a bit sloppy at times.
This is an issue that has to be resolved before the regular season rolls around with more meaningful games.
Tighter coverage in the secondary

The Titans did an excellent job filling the gaps and shutting the run game down last week. But one thing they struggled with was allowing opposing receivers to reel in a hefty number of receptions.
A large part of the Eagles’ receiving yards came from a long 75-yard touchdown that Adoree’ Jackson missed a play on.
The Patriots will likely be a team who drops back and airs the ball out early and often. With possible quarterback of the future Jarrett Stidham, so many new receivers, and uncertainty at the tight end position, who could blame them?
The Titans will have to be ready, and this could serve as a great opportunity for the coaching staff and analysts to evaluate the talent in the secondary.
Win in the red zone

The Titans have been known for having a great red-zone defense over the last few years.
If the Patriots can be held to field goals, the Titans stand a much healthier chance of coming up with the win.
