3 cornerbacks Texans’ fourth-rounder John Reid patterns his game after

The Houston Texans picked up a cornerback in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft when they selected John Reid at 141st overall on day three.

The former Penn State Nittany Lion has watched plenty of tape of NFL cornerbacks while in college and high school.

“I watch a mix of guys depending on what I was looking for,” Reid told reporters April 25.

Here are the three cornerbacks Reid molds his game after.

1. Chris Harris

Reid said that he loved the way Harris would play inside and outside when he was with the Denver Broncos. The former 2011 undrafted free agent from Kansas collected four Pro Bowls and an All-Pro selection in his nine seasons in Denver, batting away 86 passes, intercepting 20 others, and recording 518 tackles.

2. Jason Verrett

Reid didn’t specify what particular aspect of Verrett’s game that he watched, just that he watched Verrett during his early NFL career. After earning a Pro Bowl in his second season in 2015, the former San Diego Chargers first-round pick has fallen off the map as injuries have derailed his career. The San Francisco 49ers have brought him back after he played one game in 2019 on his one-year deal.

3. Tre’Davious White

The Buffalo Bills’ 2017 first-round pick is someone Reid watched a lot in 2019.

“Last year, we played a lot of cover three and things like that and I wanted to be able to press-bail better, so I would watch guys like Tre’Davious White who did that,” Reid explained.

White earned his first Pro Bowl selection and All-Pro honor as he intercepted six passes and broke up 17 passes in 2019.

Even though Reid has players he patterns his game after, he always stays true to himself.

“So, I’m usually pulling certain clips to try to take pieces of everybody’s game that I can, but make sure that I have my own identity also,” said Reid.
