3 CBs begin camp in the mix to replace Patrick Peterson during suspension

The Arizona Cardinals have a solid top two cornerbacks on the team in Patrick Peterson and Robert Alford. However, because of Peterson’s six-game suspension that begins at the start of the season, that duo will not see the field together until Week 7.

Until then, there will be a battle for the starting job opposite Alford.

According to coach Kliff Kingsbury, three players are in the mix — Byron Murphy, Tramaine Brock and Chris Jones.

When Kingsbury spoke with reporters after the team’s conditioning test, he was asked if Murphy, a second-round pick this year, would start.

He wouldn’t commit to it.

He did mention veteran Tramaine Brock, who he said “did a great job” in the spring, and also second-year player Chris Jones, who also “had a great spring.”

“There will be a couple of guys vying for the job,” he said.

Practices begin Thursday and all three will get plenty of opportunities to show in practice and in the preseason who should be the guy to start for those first six weeks.
