3 burning Rangers issues as Alex Lowry shines amid dominant Ross County victory

Alex Lowry impressed as the youngster displayed his range of attacking qualities

Rangers dominated throughout on a comfortable night at Ibrox as they defeated Ross County 4-1.

Goals from Scott Wright and James Tavernier put Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side on easy street before a Scott Wright error allowed striker Jordan White give the Highlanders an unlikely glimpse of light.

But the sense of potential upset was short-lived as Fashion Sakala's close-range header restored the two-goal margin. Amad Diallo, who looked lively as a second-half substitute, added another in the final minute of the game.

Here are the three key talking points from the match.

The most exciting talent since Barry Ferguson?

It's been clear for anyone paying attention that Alex Lowry has a touch of stardust about him for some time but the youngster continues to impress with a consistency that belies his tender years. The 18-year-old has a laconic style that's easy on the eye and the way he moves the ball with intent and precision is reminiscent of the delicate talent displayed in Barry Ferguson's early appearances. While he's got a long way to go to live up to such a comparison it's obvious that Scottish football is seeing the first bloom of a creative wildflower. Early impressions suggest he can blossom into something truly spectacular with the right conditions and nurturing. With a three-year contract signed and sealed it's important a key role in the first-team squad is earmarked for the youngster to fully realise his potential.

The momentum continues

"We have to keep going and keep the momentum. I don't want my players to give anything less than we have seen in the last few weeks." Giovanni van Bronckhorst was clear in the moments before kick-off what he wanted from his charges - and they delivered in spades. The feel-good factor around the club is palpable at the moment and tonight's comfortable victory will only add to the cheer. While events at Tannadice mean the result has no impact on the destination of the championship, it continues the team's winning run and keeps everyone brimming with confidence ahead of the big one in Seville.

County fail to match previous levels

Malky Mackay's side has been a breath of fresh air this term and have caused Rangers serious problems in previous games - not least a 3-3 draw in Dingwall that was pivotal in handing Celtic decisive momentum in the title race. However, the veteran coach will be disappointed by his side's limp display at Ibrox tonight where they were second best throughout and failed to have much impact on the game. While Jordan White finished brilliantly for a late goal after they capitalised on a Scott Wright mistake, the Highlanders have shown they hold the capacity to be much more threatening and they will be upset they failed to match previous showings against the men from Govan.
