On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off training camp and there is a tremendous amount of anticipation surrounding this team after last season. Pittsburgh is not only rebuilding the roster. but rebuilding its reputation in the eye of the public after all the drama of 2018.
We expect lots of news out of camp from the jump and here are our three big predictions for the first week.
No player will show up in a helicopter
Don’t get us wrong, we are counting on some flashy entrances on Thursday. Linebacker Vince Williams has to top his Stone Cold Steve Austin routine from last year and we are hopeful wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster does something big. but without Antonio Brown, we don’t have to worry about any players creating the type of spectacle he did.
(Insert player name) is going to look great

By the third day, every pundit is going to have their guy who looks great already even though no one has hit anyone yet. Who is my pick for the guy I will be too excited about after just a couple of days? Wide receiver James Washington. All the talk has been about Donte Moncrief and Diontae Johnson but Washington is the incumbent on the roster and sounds focused on improving. I feel like he will be the guy I get way too excited about early.
Mike Tomlin isn’t going to act like he’s having any fun

No matter how good things are going early on, head coach Mike Tomlin is going to make it seem like nothing is right in the world. You have to respect the fact Tomlin never breaks character when he speaks to the press and is going to continue to not give any players praise publicly. He will be sure everyone knows nothing about how he actually feels about the team.
