3 bargain contracts for Vikings in 2019

While the Vikings have plenty of players lots of money in 2019, they also have some players who could prove to be bargains.

Here are three that jump out to me. Of course, the potential is big here.

All contract details are courtesy of Spotrac.

S, Anthony Harris – $3.095 million

Harris will replace Andrew Sendejo as the team’s starting safety after starting nine of 16 games last season for the injured Sendejo. Sendeo will play for the Eagles in 2019.

Now it’s all about Harris, and he deserves it. His 89.0 Pro Football Focus grade ranked third among all safeties in the NFL.

It’s a big season for Harris financially, as he’ll hit unrestricted free agency in 2020.

WR, Jordan Taylor – $720,000

If Taylor can win the Vikings third wide receiver spot, this would be an absolute steal for the Vikings. Taylor is familiar with Gary Kubiak from their days in Denver.

The other favorite to win the third wide receiver spot is second-year player Chad Beebe. Beebe is due just $570,000 in 2019.

DE, Stephen Weatherly – $720,000

Weatherly played well in Everson Griffen’s absence last season. If Griffen falls off (he’s 31 years old), Weatherly is an obvious replacement. The Vikings have a choice to make. They can extend Weatherly before his rookie contract expires (sometime in training camp), or risk that Weatherly has a big season and they’ll be forced to make a decision on paying big money.

It feels like the answer is to give him a moderate deal prior to the season. If he underperforms, it’s a far less risk than if he overperforms and you have yet to pay him.
