3,189 new covid cases overnight and no deaths in Scotland

No coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Scotland in the past 24 hours but 3,189 new cases have been confirmed, the latest Scottish Government figures show.

The death toll under the daily measure - of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - remains at 8,070.

The daily test positivity rate is 12.4%, up on the previous day.

A total of 356 people were in hospital on Sunday with recently confirmed Covid-19.

There are 41 patients who are currently receiving treatment in intensive care.

So far, 4,082,698 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination and 3,572,042 have had their second.

The news comes as a Scots MSP warned a health board was 'facing a ticking time bomb' with operations being cancelled due to a surge in Covid patients.

South Scotland Labour List MSP Colin Smyth who has raised concerns over the long-term impact of Covid on local NHS services.

Some health boards across the country have already announced they had been forced to cancel some planned operations.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran also took the recent decision to cancel some planned procedures until the end of August.

Their decision came just days after NHS Borders temporarily cancelled all scheduled routine operations due to pressure on services.
