3,037 new Covid cases, 25 more deaths

There were 25 more Covid-19 fatalities and 3,037 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Thursday morning.

There were 2,956 cases in the general population and 81 among prison inmates.

This compared with 17 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,575 new cases reported on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, 3,115 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 2,220,324 Covid-19 cases, with 2,165,253 complete recoveries so far.

The vast majority of the Covid cases and deaths have occurred since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began.

The death toll stood at 21,578 during the third wave and 21,672 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The kingdom's 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.

The latest 25 deaths were aged 26 to 93 years and included one Cambodian and a Myanmar nationals.

In the Central Plain, Bangkok logged three new deaths while Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ratchaburi and Saraburi had one fatality each.

The Northeast had two fatalities in Khon Kaen.

The South reported six more deaths - in Nakhon Si Thammarat (2), Surat Thani (2), Trang (1) and Yala (1).

The North registered 11 new deaths in Chiang Mai, Phetchabun, Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, and Lampang.

The 3,037 new cases included 2,844 local infections and 112 imported cases. Of the local infections, 2,794 were confirmed at hospitals and 50 via mass testing.

Bangkok registered 430 new cases (up from 358 on the previous day), followed by 304 in Chon Buri (up from 191), 134 in Nakhon Si Thammarat (up from 63), 126 in Ubon Ratchathani (up from 73), 83 in in Samut Prakan (down from 84), 83 in Maha Sarakham (up from 47), 80 in Khon Kaen (up from 68), 67 in Chiang Mai (up from 56), 63 in Kalasin (down from 65) and 62 in Roi Et (up from 32).

On Wednesday 33,399 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 33,502 on the previous day), including 626 seriously ill patients (up from 614) and 161 dependent on ventilators (up from 153).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.59 million (up from 1.13 million) in 24 hours to 284.91 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,047 to 5.43 million.

The United States had the most cases at 54.65 million, up 465,670 (up from 267,199), and the most deaths at 844,272, up 1,777 (from 1,515).
