NEW DELHI: Bangladesh are on the verge of a historic 2-0 series whitewash over Pakistan after bowling out the hosts for 172 in the second innings of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Monday.
With a target of 185 for victory, Bangladesh reached 42 without loss in seven overs before bad light and subsequent rain halted play at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Zakir Hasan was unbeaten on 31, including two sixes, accompanied by Shadman Islam on nine.
Bangladesh now need 143 more runs to win on the final day.
Earlier, Hasan Mahmud (5/43) and Nahid Rana (4/44) starred with the ball after Pakistan resumed at nine for two.
Taskin Ahmed dismissed overnight batter Saim Ayub for 20 before Nahid dismantled Pakistan's batting lineup with three wickets in three overs.
A leaden-footed Shan Masood slashed at a wide delivery to get out for 28, while Babar Azam's struggle continued as he edged a Nahid delivery to Shadman at first slip for 11.
Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 43, could have been out on his first ball had Shadman not dropped a regulation catch.
Rizwan also suffered a blow to the helmet from a Nahid bouncer in a fiery spell.
Nahid eventually dismissed Saud Shakeel, while Rizwan attempted a counter-attack.
Hasan Mahmud struck twice after the lunch break, removing Rizwan and Mohammad Ali with successive deliveries. He also claimed the wicket of Abrar Ahmed. Salman Agha remained unbeaten on 47, but Hasan secured his maiden five-wicket haul by dismissing Mir Hamza.
In the first Test, held on August 25, Bangladesh claimed their first-ever Test victory against Pakistan, winning by 10 wickets.
