29th Int’l Conference of the Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Kicks off in Cairo

The 29th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs got underway in Cairo on Saturday, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

The event is being organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf and held under the patronage of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi.

More than 150 international figures from more than 40 countries, including 13 ministers of Awqaf and Islamic affairs, Islamic organizations, scientists, intellectuals and university professors, are taking part in the event.

Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the conference is headed by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Da'wah and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh.

The conference, which was inaugurated by Egypt’s Awqaf Minister Dr. Mohammad Mukhtar Jumaa, is being held under the theme of national character and its impact on the progress of countries.

It will discuss the foundations of national religious and cultural discourse. It will also highlight education and its effect on building personality and the role of the family, media, scientists and national institutions in building national character and the strategic vision for the development of religious discourse and its impact in preventing extremism and terrorism.

The conference will organize workshops and seminars on Egypt's historical, civilization and multi-cultural relations with African countries. The seminars will also address the role of the family in stabilizing society, ways to protect youth from extremism and the role of social media in the stability of societies.
