A total of 295 new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Tokyo on Saturday, Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike announced.
It marked the fifth consecutive day the figure has exceeded 200 and pushed the cumulative total of coronavirus cases in the capital to 10,975.
"Although we're in the middle of a four-day weekend, we're asking people, especially the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions, to avoid going out if possible," Koike told reporters at the Metropolitan government office.
