Latest figures show that 290 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in North East hospitals so far in February.
According to data published by NHS England on Sunday, the highest number of deaths were in hospitals within the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, with a figure of 84.
The Trust's sites include South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital.
This was followed by 75 deaths within the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which includes the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, and 65 in the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.
The figures cover a period between February 1 and February 20, and NHS England says the patients who died in hospital tested positive for Covid-19.
All deaths are recorded against the date of death rather than the day the deaths were announced.
The organisation also says the numbers could change, particularly for the last few days, as confirmation of more deaths could be received at a later stage. The figures for each NHS trust for February so far can be seen below.
On Sunday, nationally, a further 258 people who tested positive for coronavirus died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 81,304, NHS England said.
Patients were aged between 29 and 101. All except 17, aged between 52 and 100, had known underlying health conditions. The deaths were between December 10 and February 20. There were 31 other deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
