LUCKNOW: The transmission rate of novel coronavirus increased further on Wednesday, infecting 288 more people in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the third wave to over 800 in two weeks since December 22.
The cases are doubling every third day. On December 3, only three people had tested positive. Thereafter, the daily numbers increased sharply and 150 people were diagnosed with the disease on Tuesday.
Of the new cases reported on Wednesday, 73 had travel history to other states and countries while 71 were family members of those who were earlier tested Covid positive.
While 54 patients got themselves tested after developing mild symptoms, 15 tested positive during routine tests before being admitted to hospitals for treatment of another disease. Besides, nine healthcare workers were diagnosed with the disease during a routine sampling drive.
Health department officials said that 42 new cases each were reported from Aishbagh and Chinhat areas followed by 41 each from Indiranagar and Sarojininagar. Aliganj recorded 31 cases, while 22 were from the Old city areas. The remaining cases were reported from other parts of the city.
Spokesperson at the CMO office, Yogesh Raghuvanshi, said: “Most of the patients are recovering in home isolation. The condition of all the patients is being closely monitored.”
