27 ways lockdown has changed us

Life before coronavirus may seem like a distant memory for most of us as lockdown rules of one shape or another continue, at least for now.

It's been tough for many people not being able to see their loved ones, but there have been some things that have put a smile on our faces.

There have also been many things that we've discovered during the time dubbed 'the new normal'.

Here's how lockdown has changed us.

1. The number of people now out running who clearly never normally run

The instruction that we could only exercise once a day, be it a walk, cycle or run, seems to have been taken literally by some people - as an instruction. Or maybe it's just made people think that they should be doing something other than sitting in front of the TV, especially those working from home or furloughed who don't have to worry about the daily commute any more and have more time on their hands.

2. Everyone did Joe Wicks... for about a week

But well done to those of you who have stuck at it.

3 We are all now baking

That's if you can find any flour. Everyone is baking so much, it's difficult to find a bag anywhere.

4. We've suddenly turned into nosy neighbours

We were recently told to 'stay alert'. Plenty of people were doing that all along - but alert to their neighbours breaking lockdown rules. Or maybe, staring out the window is just a means to feel part of the outside world, albeit in a small way.

5. Airport drinking rules now seem to apply

Sales of alcohol are one thing that's risen during this pandemic. It has been a stressful time...

6. We dressed so smartly for video calls - but by week three we turned off the camera and are now in our PJs.

We are all getting a little more comfortable working from home - and that includes ditching the tie and even the shirt as well.

7. Cutting someone's hair isn't that difficult

Or is it...?

8. Going to the supermarket is now a night out

You have to get your kicks where you can find them.

9. That realisation that you don't need to spend loads of money to keep the kids entertained

Everyone is having to make do with what they have around the house - turns out, that's quite a lot.

From painting to making dens, there's so much to do (scu)

10. Gardening and DIY suddenly became a fun thing to do

All those jobs you've been putting off for years - they are all getting done now.

11. For some of us, clapping for the NHS on a Thursday is the only way we know what day it is

The rest of the week - some of us are completely lost.

12 It's very easy to become addicted to online shopping

Right now, it's the only kind of shopping around.

13. And spend hours watching TikTok videos

Social media, while socially distanced.

14. Seeing people walking around dressed in fancy dress is now the new norm for some communities

Someone walking down the road dressed as a Marvel or Disney character hardly warrants a second look these days.

15. Our neighbours have helped us get through this

There have been some amazing things happening on doorsteps across Wales.

16. Lockdown has made us realise that we were ALWAYS eating out

Well, maybe not 'always', but we've all probably had to dust off a few old recipe books to keep ourselves going.

17. The only thing keeping you going is waiting for your latest parcel to arrive

It's so exciting when that doorbell goes. It's contact with the outside world for a start, and it comes with a gift (that you had to pay for yourself).

18. And one of the things we think about a lot is 'what joggers should I wear today'

It's not an easy decision, unless you only have one pair.

19. We will never take quality time with family and friends for granted again

There could be quite a bit of socialising going on when this all ends.

20. Now we know why dogs get so excited to go for a walk

We're out the door before them these days - they struggle to keep up.

21. We have realised how much money we used to spend on lunch, coffee and fuel

It all adds up to more than you think.

22. Days are spent constantly loading and unloading the dishwasher

Let's just hope it lasts lockdown. All those lunch dishes are making it work overtime.

23. Every email/message gets signed off with "keep safe"

It's the new 'see you soon'.

24. No matter how many times you open the fridge door - what’s in it doesn’t change

But at least it's something to do.

25. Zoom conversations basically involve everyone talking loudly and apologising for interrupting, ‘sorry, no, you go first’.

And there's always someone with their mic off who gets told 'you're muted'.

26. Watching the most random nonsense on Netflix, Amazon or TV - because you've watched everything else

Anyone for a documentary on giraffes?

(PA)

27. And no matter what happens, we will always be grateful for our amazing NHS staff and key workers

We won't be taking them for granted again any time soon either. Key workers - we salute you.
