'£25m plus Aubameyang' - Man United fans react as Chris Smalling is linked with Arsenal transfer

Reports linking Chris Smalling with a move to Arsenal has got a number of Manchester United supporters proposing a swap deal.

According to reports in Italy who claim the Gunners are keen to strike an agreement with their Premier League rivals in a bid to bolster their back-line in the summer transfer window.

Corriere dello Sport, as per the Metro, claims the Red Devils already have an offer on the table from the Gunners for Smalling and the north London outfit have 'asked for information regarding a potential summer deal.

What Arsenal stars are up to during lockdown

In the event that Smalling is allowed to leave the 'Theatre of Dreams' permanently this summer, then a replacement would be required as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be short of one central defender.

However, some United fans don't think a defensive player is needed.

In fact, many have come up with a solution that suits the Red Devils more than it would the Gunners.

That is a swap deal which would see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang move in the opposite direction.

Take a look at the reaction on Twitter...

What could stop Arsenal from signing Smalling is the fact that Roma are keen to turn the defender's loan spell into a permanent one at the end of the season.

"Chris is a great, great man, a great, great professional," Paulo Fonseca told Sky Sports. "The adaptation (to Italian football) was very easy for him.

"He's a boy that everyone loves in the club because he is a great professional.

"I would like Chris to stay.

"We are speaking. I don't know if it is possible because of the situation with Manchester United, but I would like so much for Chris to stay here with us because he is very important.

"He is a great player, a great man with a great attitude every day and for all of these reasons I would be very happy if Chris stays."
