Around 250 horses have been removed from fields in Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan on welfare grounds during two separate operations.
On Tuesday, a joint operation between the RSPCA, Cardiff Council, Bridgend Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council saw officers called out to two sites in Bridgend and the Vale after concerns were raised about the condition of a number of horses.
Around 100 animals were subsequently taken from property and were assessed by vets.
Local residents told WalesOnline a number of horses had been removed from fields around Coity.
Just two weeks earlier in January, animal welfare officers removed more than 140 horses from a different site in the Vale.
A Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesperson said: “Shared Regulatory Services has been assisted by the RSPCA in an operation to move a number of horses following welfare concerns.”
The RSPCA and Cardiff council confirmed they had been involved. An RSPCA Cymru spokesperson said: "This is not an RSPCA operation - however we are pleased to be able to offer assistance to Shared Regulatory Services concerning the movement of a number of animals."
The case is still being assessed and no criminal proceedings have yet been launched.
