£250,000 luxury camping site opens at Stapleford farm

A £250,000 luxury camping site at a Stapleford has opened to the public.

The family in charge of Meadow View Glamping, which is on the grounds of Mill Farm, in Mill Road, unveiled the facility on April 17.

Six glamping pods have been created each with a double bed and bunk bed facilities for up to four people.

Each features a bedroom, washroom, kitchen area and barbecue, as well as television and Wi-Fi facilities.

Victor Smedley, 60, who deals with the management and maintenance of the site, said: "It's very exciting. It's been a bit of a battle to get it done.

"We have had some bad weather while we were doing it. We did not start the groundwork until October.

Three of the cabins are booked over Easter and there have also been bookings for August.

It follows a trial weekend which took place last week as four couples who the family know stayed at the site.

"We have some more bookings ready for Easter and some for August.

"Our website did not go live until 10 days ago. We wanted to have everything in place," added Mr Smedley.

His brother, Doug, 58, will also manage and maintain the site while his wife, Rachel, 50, who used to work for the civil service, will manage the bookings.

The pods cost £54 per night to book during the winter, from £74 a night mid-week in the summer, and up to £120 per night over Christmas and New Year.

Mrs Smedley added: "It's been 18 months in the development right from having the idea.

"I spent a good couple of months researching other sites, what their amenities are and prices are."

She added: "We are on a really good bus route and, because we are going to accept dogs, it's great for walking.

"You have got the choice of the canal in either direction."

The land in question is situated north of the family farm and was previously used as a storage site.

Each cabin is six-and-a-half metres long and three-and-a-half metres wide.
