25 people killed as bus carrying wedding party leaves road and plunges 1,600ft

At least 25 people have been pronounced dead after a coach carrying a wedding party tragically plunged 1600ft off a mountain in India.

The guests were travelling back from Laldhang in the Haridwar district before their vehicle suffered the catastrophic fall off the road in Pauri Garhwal.

At least 21 people have been saved following an overnight operation by SDRF and the police.

The coach was carrying around 45 passengers including women and kids, according to reports.

Deputy General of Police Ashok Kumar said: "25 people were found dead in the Pauri Garhwal bus accident that took place last night in the Birokhal area of Dhumakot.

"Police and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) rescued 21 people overnight; the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals."

Rescue teams were spotted evacuating the crash site during the overnight operation.
