Alleged Bondi terror attack gunman Naveed Akram has woken up from his coma and is conscious in hospital, 9News reports.
The 24-year-old, alongside his father Sajid Akram, has been accused of opening fire at a bustling Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday evening, in which 15 people were killed and 40 more were injured.
The victims include 10-year-old girl Matilda, Holocaust survivor Alexander Kleytman and French national Dan Elkayam.

Following the attack, Naveed was arrested and taken to a hospital in a critical condition. His father, Sajid, was killed during a shootout with police.
Now, police have said that Naveed has awoken from his coma and is conscious in hospital. 9News reports that police are expected to lay charges against the alleged shooter over the terror attack.
What will Naveed Akram be charged with?
Details surrounding what or when Naveed will be charged are currently unknown. However, NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon assured the public that he will more than likely face “criminal charges” when he recovers in hospital.
“Based on his medical condition, it’s likely that person may face criminal charges,” Lanyon said in a press conference on Monday.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the attack was likely motivated by extremist Islamist ideology.

“We continue to work through the motive of this tragedy. And we’ll continue to do so. I think it’s really important that our investigators continue to be given time to do that,” Lanyon said on Tuesday.
The commissioner also said it was investigating why the alleged offenders travelled to the Philippines in November, with ABC News reporting earlier that the father-son shooters allegedly travelled to the country to receive “military-style training”.
Leaders across the country have offered their support to the Australian Jewish community, with tributes continuing to flow for the victims.
