DEHRADUN: At least 24 passengers sustained injuries after a roadways bus in which they were travelling turned turtle between Bhimgoda and Chandi bridge near Rishikesh on Thursday morning. The bus was carrying 35 passengers, mostly state residents.
It was coming from Tanakpur and was on its way to Rishikesh when the accident took place. On receiving information about the accident, cops from a nearby police station reached the spot and launched a relief and rescue operation with the help of locals. “The bus driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a car coming from the opposite direction that led to the accident. The bus turned turtle along the roadside and its windows had to be broken to pull out the passengers,” said a police official.
All the 24 injured passengers were taken to a hospital in Haridwar where they are currently undergoing treatment. Instead of the main highway, the roadways buses, nowadays, are travelling through Chandi Ghat via Cheela Barrage to reach Haridwar.
Earlier on Monday, a bus carrying pilgrims from Maharashtra overturned on Rishikesh-Badrinath highway, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man from Panvel in Navi Mumbai.
