NEW DELHI: While the ruling BJP took a dig at the 26 opposition parties which met in Bengaluru on Tuesday and named their group as Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, it was attacked over its claim that 38 parties are attending the NDA meet in the national capital.
The NDA meeting was held on the completion of 25 years of the alliance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP and spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi, in a tweet, said out of 38 parties of the NDA which attended the ruling party’s meeting, 24 have nil Lok Sabha MPs, seven parties have just one Lok Sabha MP each while two parties have two Lok Sabha MPs each.
She said, “Just saying. Since someone had recently found it amusing that there were ‘parties with not even a single LS MP’ attending the Patna meet of opposition leaders.”
The Patna meeting of the opposition, held on June 23, was attended by 16 political parties.
Like Chaturvedi, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and spokesperson Derek O'Brien too mocked the NDA. In a tweet, he said, “Political parties at #BengaluruSummit clearly setting the narrative. BJP is reacting. Calls meeting also on June 18 ‘with 30 parties’. Big number? Here are NDA allies and their numbers in #Parliament.”
Derek said eight NDA parties had zero MPs, nine NDA parties had one MP each while three NDA parties had two MPs each.
However, some social media users replied to Chaturvedi and Derek and reminded that the record of the 26 opposition parties in this respect was not better.
One of them said out of the 26 opposition parties, nine [RJD, PDP, RLD, CPIML, FB, AD(K), KC(J), KDMK, MMK] have zero MPs.
Six parties (CPI, AAP, JMM, MDMK, RSP, KCM) have one MP each.
Two parties (VCK, IUML) have two MPs each. Two parties (CPM and NC) have three MPs each while one party (NCP) has five MPs.
“So, 20 of 26 parties have 21 MPs,” one of them pointed out.
