24 Hours in A&E teen Kye's cardiac arrest while playing football has viewers in tears

Channel 4 viewers say they were moved to tears by Tuesday night's 24 Hours in A&E. This week's episode featured a young man called Kye who collapsed during a football training session.

Eighteen-year-old Kye was rushed to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham after going into cardiac arrest. Quick-thinking teammates, staff and coaches had begun CPR while someone ran to fetch a defibrillator.

Kye survived, but almost certainly only because the sports ground had a defibrillator on site. Now 19, he said: “Without it there is a big chance I just wouldn’t be here. I’m just very grateful that it was there and for the people who helped me.”

Viewers watching the episode say Kye's story left them 'traumatised' and 'in bits'. Jen Emery tweeted: "24 Hours in A&E has been on for 9 minutes and I’m traumatised already. Keeping fingers crossed for Kye; such a frightening situation."

@pearlsgilr73 tweeted: "Hope that poor boy makes a full recovery. Every parent's worst nightmare"

@sAstillchole said: "Kye's coach getting emotional is making me cry."

@JuFitJuJu said: "So relieved for Kye & his mum, massive props to those coaches, a subject so close to my heart as I manage my sons team, so a worst nightmare for any coach."

GP Stephanie deGiorgio tweeted: "Oh goodness… 24 Hours in A&E and Kye - What a good example of why good CPR saves lives. Amazing."

@lillyt72 said: "Don't think I've ever willed a positive outcome and survive that cardiac arrest ... Amazing Kye. In bits watching."

And @MrsShapo said: "Amazing! Another emotional episode of 24 Hours in A&E. We are so lucky to have this and all the amazing medics and staff who work miracles everyday. Proud to play my small part for NUH NHS."
