24-hour Starbucks drive-through in Nottingham has been approved

A 24-hour Starbucks drive-through has been approved for a spot off a busy city road in a move likely to create dozens of jobs.

Earmarked for land near Dunelm - the homeware and furniture store, in Queens Drive - more than 30 full-time and part-time positions are expected to be created.

The project was given the go-ahead last week.

A Nottingham City Council planning report clarified one representation was made in light of the plans.

The authority said several concerns had been raised - with one person saying there should be a focus on "creating neighbourhoods".

Planning documents, submitted as part of the application, state: "Essentially, the proposal is a roadside operation to serve passing trade so that they can enjoy a refreshment during their journey.

"It also provides an opportunity for local workers, residents and visitors to the nearby retail and leisure park at Castle Meadows Retail Park to benefit from the proposal."

The plans, drawn up by Stephen George + Partners on behalf of The Portal Nottingham Limited, clarify the operator of the facility is likely to be Starbucks.

The drive-through is proposed to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, served by 31 parking spaces.

Two disabled spaces and two electric vehicle charging spaces form part of the offering.

Construction work must take place between 7.30am and 6pm, from Monday to Friday, and 8.30am and 5pm on a Saturday.

Earlier this year, some people questioned the need for another drive-through coffee shop.

There is already a Costa Coffee drive-through nearby at the Castle Marina Retail Park.

Speaking previously, Diane Beresford, deputy chief executive at East Midlands Chamber, said: “It is always pleasing to see investment in Nottingham and across our region, especially investment which gives consumers an increased variety of services and choice and which encourage additional footfall to the area."

She added the potential jobs "can act as a real boost to both our communities and, simultaneously, the local economy”.

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Starbucks involved for comment.
