24/7 strip club could soon be coming to Liverpool

A new 24 hour pole dancing club in Liverpool city centre could get approval just weeks after a similar licence for the same building was surrendered.

Pub Invest Group has applied for a sex entertainment venue licence for 18 Cumberland Street in Liverpool city centre but faces opposition from local councillors who say the plans will increase public nuisance and affect public safety.

The venue was previously operated as Angel's Paradise - but that venue moved to nearby Princes Street last year.

Now an application for a new licence for the Cumberland Street premises will go before the council's licensing committee on Tuesday.

It would allow “lap dancing, pole dancing, strip shows and table dancing” to take place at the unnamed club.

A report submitted with the application says that Pub Invest Group have recently bought 18 Cumberland Street and that its previous licence was surrendered by the previous owner earlier this month.

The report says: “The relevant entertainment to be provided at the establishment is described as being “lap dancing, pole dancing, strip shows and table dancing.

“The hours applied for are 24 hours Monday to Sunday.

“The premises was previously subject to a Sexual Entertainment Venue Licence in the name of “Angels Paradise” held by John Patrick Fox. This licence was surrendered on 16 January 2020.

“It is understood that Pub Invest Group Ltd have purchased 18 Cumberland Street.”

Central ward councillors Nick Small and Maria Toolan have both opposed the application, with councillor Toolan describing it as "not what the city needs".

Councillor Small said: “I oppose this application on the grounds that I believe it will increase public nuisance and compromise public safety.”

The application will be heard at Liverpool Town Hall on Tuesday, February 4.
