Thailand saw 233 Covid-19 fatalities and a 19-day low of 19,014 new cases over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Sunday morning.
Over the previous 24 hours, 20,672 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said the 233 fatalities, 140 of whom were men, ranged from seven months to 101 years old, with an average age of 66.
All were Thai except for four Myanmar nationals and one each from Cambodia, China and Singapore.
People 60 and over accounted for 155 (67%) of the latest fatalities. Those with known underlying conditions accounted for 18%, with 43 deaths. Thirty-three -- 14% -- had no known pre-existing diseases.
The most frequent underlying conditions among the deceased were hypertension (116) and diabetes (73).
Nationwide fatalities
Bangkok registered 71 deaths, with a further 83 in its adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (25), Samut Sakhon (20), Nakhon Pathom (16), Pathum Thani (14) and Nonthaburi (8).
The South reported 13 fatalities — in Narathiwat (3), Pattani (3), Songkhla (2), Surat Thani (2), Chumphon (1), Trang (1) and Phangna (1).
The Northeast saw 16 more deaths — in Buri Ram (3), Surin (3), Nong Khai (2), Khon Kaen (2), Udon Thani (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Chaiyaphum (1), Yasothon (1), Si Sa Ket (1) and Nakhon Phanom (1)
The North recorded 9 more deaths — in Tak (5), Uttaradit (2), Phichit (1), and Sukhothai (1).
Eleven other provinces reported the remaining 41 deaths — Ayutthaya (15), Saraburi (6), Prachuap Khiri Khan (4), Chachoengsao (4) Nakhon Nayok (3), Ang Thong (2), Rayong (2), Chon Buri (2), Prachin Buri (1), Sa Kaeo (1) and Trat (1).
More than 200,000 in hospitals
The CCSA said the 19,014 new cases over the past 24 hours consisted of 18,808 local infections, 10 imported cases and 196 in prisons.
Of the local infections, 16,428 were confirmed at hospitals and 2,380 during mass testing.
Bangkok saw 4,399 new cases on Saturday, followed by Samut Sakhon (1,499), Chon Buri (1,092), Samut Prakan (749), Nonthaburi (690), Nakhon Pathom (638), Ratchaburi (560), Chachoengsao (488), Nakhon Ratchasima (484) and Saraburi (390).
The 10 imported cases were from the Netherlands (2), Taiwan (1), Malaysia (2), Cambodia (1), and Myanmar (4) -- six Thais, four Myanmar and two Dutch nationals.
On Saturday, 200,339 patients were being treated in hospitals -- including 5,239 seriously ill, with 1,117 dependent on ventilators.
Global Covid-19 cases increased by 563,284 in 24 hours to 212.14 million. The death toll rose by 8,681 to 4.43 million. The United States had the most cases at 38.51 million, up 90,782. Thailand ranked 33rd in terms of accumulated caseload.
