233 Covid cases across Nottinghamshire in seven days, figures show

Latest weekly figures show there have been 233 Covid cases over the past week in Nottinghamshire.

The data, which is released by the government, shows how many positive tests have been reported in the week leading to May 25.

There have been 233 Covid cases across the whole of Nottinghamshire during the last seven days, according to the figures.

Meanwhile, in Nottingham city, 75 cases have been reported.

There have been 20 cases in Ashfield, 17 cases in Bassetlaw and 28 positive tests in Gedling during this time.

Rushcliffe has reported 19 cases, while Newark and Sherwood has seen 32 - Broxtowe has had 26 cases. Mansfield, meanwhile, has had 16 positive tests.

All of this means that, since the start of the pandemic, there have been 87,322 confirmed cases in the county - 31,099 of these have been in Nottingham city.

The Department for Health and Social Care recently revealed there have been 158 cases of the Indian Covid variant in the county, which makes it one of the worst affected areas in the UK.

The DHSC said: “The Government and its scientific experts are closely monitoring the evolving situation and rates of variants, and we will not hesitate to take additional action as necessary.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock previously said: “The latest estimates are that more than half and potentially as many as three-quarters of all new cases are now of this variant. As we set out our roadmap we always expected cases to rise, we must remain vigilant.

“The aim, of course, is to break the link to hospitalisations and deaths so that cases alone no longer require stringent restrictions on people’s lives.”
