23 year old opens 'first of its kind' New York-style gym in Liverpool

A 23 year old has opened a New York-style gym believed to be the first of its kind in Liverpool.

Lauren Caffrey, who decided she wanted to run her own gym at the tender age of 14, has now realised her dream and opened The Zone in Wavertree.

Before the pandemic, Lauren visited New York three times and fell in love with the high energy atmosphere she found in the city’s gyms, combined with how impressive they looked. Wanting people in Liverpool to have the same kind of experience when working out, she set about bringing the concept here.

The 2,000 sqft gym, on Mill Lane Trading Park, has an exclusive feel with a predominantly black colour scheme and white strobe lighting.

Lauren used the latest lockdown to bring her vision to life, having only signed the lease on Christmas Eve. The unit was a complete shell when worked started in January but was transformed in time for opening on April 12.

Lauren said: "I knew when I was opening The Zone that I wanted it to be the only gym in Liverpool to look the way it does. I wanted those coming to train at The Zone to come for their health and fitness, but also because it's aesthetically pleasing and has a high energy vibe like no other gym in the city. The attention to detail throughout has been meticulous and I couldn't be happier with the finished result."

From next Monday, the gym is launching The Zone Nation bootcamp classes, which Lauren has specifically designed. The sessions feature three stations including five treadmills, five boxing bags and five HIIT benches. Each class will be for just 15 people at a time, so the trainer can work closely with those taking part.

The gym is having an open day this Saturday from 12pm to 3pm and everyone is welcome to have a look round, see the bootcamp room and where the gym's Zen yoga classes will be held.

Liverpool DJ Kaci-Lea Lynch will be playing and there will be treats from Millie’s Cupcakes.
