22-year-old Irish man reportedly found dead at port in France

An Irish man has reportedly been found dead in the waters of a French port.

The 22-year-old man, who has not been named, was discovered on Friday in the waters by a local fisherman in La Ciotat, a town on the southern coast that's about 40 minutes from Marseille.

Local media reports that emergency services, including firefighters, an ambulance, and police responded to the scene. He was pronounced dead shortly after 5am.

Reports also state that the man was from Northern Ireland and had been working as a chef on one of the vessels in the port.

Police believe he may have fallen into the waters while returning to the boat where he was working, however, an investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery continues.

Meanwhile, the shocking news comes as another Irish man, a teacher believed to be in his 40s, died in Thailand after falling from a balcony.

The man, who was from the Munster area, was pronounced dead at the scene after falling from the block in the Bang Khae district of Bangkok on June 9. An investigation is now underway.

He had been living in the apartment for a year and was described as a "smiling person who could communicate clearly in Thai" by locals who spoke to a Thai news outlet.

Police are investigating all the circumstances surrounding his death but it's not believed to be suspicious.
