21-year-old man stabbed on Merchant City's Ingram Street on busy Saturday afternoon

A 21-year-old man has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed on one of the city's busiest streets in broad daylight.

Police rushed to Ingram Street in Glasgow's Merchant City earlier this afternoon.

A 21-year-old man was taken to Glasgow's Royal Infirmary and is being treated for his injuries.

Police say there are no details on the severity of his injuries.

Glasgow city centre has been particularly busy today with Christmas shoppers and afternoon revellers.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live: "We were in one of the restaurants on the street when we noticed police were outside.

"We asked the waiter what had been happening and they said that a man came into the restaurant after having been stabbed. There was blood everywhere. The manager had to give the police a statement. He was taken away in an ambulance".

Police remain on the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a man being stabbed on Ingram Street around 3.30pm on Saturday 4 December 2021.

"A 21-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries

“Enquiries are at a very early stage and are ongoing.”
