21-year-old driving stolen bike arrested in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: The crime branch arrested a man for driving a stolen bike with fake number plate at sectors 25 and 38 light-point on Wednesday. The bike was stolen from Zirakpur on June 6. Police said the accused has been identified as Sandeep Kumar Yadav, 21, a resident of Khuda Lahora village.

On a tip, the police had set up a checkpoint at sectors 25 and 38 light-point. Sandeep, who was driving a high-end bike without a helmet, was signalled to stop. He was coming from Punjab University side and the motorcycle had a Chandigarh registration number. When cops asked him to show the bike documents, he started making excuses.

Police verified the bike details and found its original registration number was HP-57-7289 and that it was stolen from Zirakpur on June 6. He was produced in a local court that sent him to judicial custody for 14 days on Thursday.
