CHENNAI: Atleast 21 police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday in the Greater Chennai police limits. An additional commissioner and two assistant commissioners were among those infected.
In the past one week, atleast 70 police personnel have got infected in the city. Across the state, over 300 cops have tested positive so far, including six IPS officers.
With a spike in cases across the city, the Greater Chennai police have been instructed to strictly follow standard operating procedures while dealing with complainants and accused.
Police sources said that 95 percent of police personnel across the state have taken their first dose of the vaccine and 87 percent have taken their second dose. Booster doses are being arranged for those who have taken the second dose.
In a crackdown during the night curfew on Monday in the city, 226 cases were registered and 517 vehicles were seized for violating Covid protocols.
