Figures given to local public representatives this week and confirmed to WalesOnline also showed 36 care homes in the health board area were having two rounds of testing for all staff and residents, including ten in Newport.

The figures, which are given to public representatives each week, were shared on Wednesday by South Wales East Plaid Cymru MS Delyth Jewell, and showed the number of patients with the virus, or being tested, across all hospitals in the health board area.

It showed in the past week:

  • 40 patients have received a positive test for Covid-19
  • 162 are awaiting test results and as such assumed as Covid-19 until test results are confirmed
  • 11 patients who have previously tested positive have now tested negative and are recovering

The health board also said 1,254 patients across its hospitals currently were non Covid-19 related, and that there were currently 20 people in critical care, four of whom had tested positive for the virus.

Regarding its figures for care homes, it said the breakdown for homes having rounds of testing were Caerphilly with 12, Blaenau Gwent and Newport with ten each, Monmouthshire with two and Torfaen with two.

Confirming the above figures, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board said it could not yet provide a detailed breakdown of which sites or hospitals its staff cases were.

Newport reported nine new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, as 638 new positive cases were recorded in Wales.
