The 20th Biennale of Sydney, curated by Stephanie Rosenthal, focuses on how the distinction between virtual and physical worlds has become ever more elusive. The title “The future is already here – it’s just not evenly distributed” is inspired by a quote from science fiction author William Gibson .
The Biennale is structured in thematic clusters with each participating venue designated as an embassy for a particular collection of thought. Carriageworks will host the Embassy of Disappearance, where artists will explore themes of absence and memory.
Artists Lauren Brincat, Neha Choksi, Yannick Dauby and Wan-Shuen Tsai, Yuta Nakamura, Otobong Nkanga, Mike Parr, Bernardo Ortiz, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul will present their work that investigates disappearing languages, histories, currencies and landscapes.
