The 20th Biennale of Sydney, curated by Stephanie Rosenthal, focuses on how the distinction between virtual and physical worlds has become ever more elusive. The title “The future is already here – it’s just not evenly distributed” is inspired by a quote from science fiction author William Gibson .
The biennale is structured in thematic clusters with each participating venue designated as an embassy for a particular collection of thought. Marking its 20th year of association with the biennale, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of the venues, and hosts the Embassy of Spirits. This collection of thought explores the intersection between the spiritual and the philosophical. Other site-specific installations will take place throughout Sydney.
