A new speed limit and speed bumps have been put in place on a road in Staple Hill. The work to add "traffic-calming measures" to Acacia Road in Staple Hill have been completed, according to a Facebook post by South Gloucestershire Council Street Care team on Wednesday (April 6).
The post details how "one speed hump and five sets of speed cushions" have been added and a 20mph speed limit introduced. The post goes on to say: "The aim is to try to make the road safer after a high number of accidents, some with serious injuries, were reported to the police.
"We’d like to thank the residents, who had a road closure in place when the work was carried out, for taking a keen interest in the work." Bristol Live reported that the area was a possible location for the 20mph speed limit back in 2020, following a series of nasty collisions in the years prior, which left three pedestrians and a cyclist injured.

At the time, consultation papers for the scheme stated: "In the five year period between January 2014 and May 2019 there were six collisions reported to the police to have resulted in injury on Acacia Road.
"Four of these involved vulnerable road users (three pedestrians and one cyclist), which resulted in three serious casualties. This is a high severity ratio involving vulnerable road users."
The residential road runs between Upper Station Road (just off Staple Hill High Street) and Hillfields Avenue in Fishponds, which is where the Bristol City Council boundary begins.
