More than 400 further coronavirus deaths recorded in past 24 hours

The number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in the UK has increased by 412.

Earlier today we reported that there had been at least an additional 207 deaths, largely from UK hospitals.

This number has now been updated by the Department of Health with a full picture of all virus deaths, which include those who have passed in care homes and at home.

Ther Department of Health has just tweeted with the full picture of the figures.

It said: "As of 9am 27 May, there have been 3,798,490 tests, with 117,013 tests on 26 May.

"267,240 people have tested positive. As of 5pm on 26 May, of those tested positive for coronavirus, across all settings, 37,460 have sadly died."

This new number means that there have been an additional 412 Covid-19 deaths registered in the past 24 hours.

The Priime Minister Boris Johnson is continuing to face pressure over his overall handling of the crisis in the country and in particular over the actions of his top adviser Dominic Cummings.

Mr Cummings' lockdown trip to Durham will be one focus of questions to the PM by a group of MPs who will meet later today.

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee will also scrutinize the government's ongoing strategy for managing the spread of the virus in the country.
