For a vehicle that has been around since 2019, you’d normally expect sales to slow as the model ages. However, the Telluride bucks that trend. Shipments in the United States have been climbing for several consecutive years. Kia sold 115,504 units in 2024, and there’s a good chance this year will be even better. Through September, the full-size gas SUV is up 13 percent.
Even though it’s still going strong, a second generation is inevitable. The wraps will come off on November 20 at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show. Although the outgoing model remains on sale as a 2025MY, its successor won’t reach showrooms until the 2027 model year. That suggests it’ll be a while before the next-gen Telluride starts arriving at dealers across the U.S. Our money’s on the second half of next year.
Ahead of its debut, Kia has released a couple of teaser images. While the Telluride hides in the shadows, a few details are visible. It’s predictably boxy and adopts the company’s latest design language, featuring an updated interpretation of vertical lights. The front end gives off EV9 vibes but retains a functional grille to cool the engine.
Under the hood, expect the same powertrains as its sister model, the Palisade. Hyundai’s three-row SUV uses a new naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 producing 287 hp and 260 lb-ft. Alternatively, a hybrid setup pairs a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors for a combined 329 hp and 339 lb-ft. Both configurations are available with two- or four-wheel drive.
Don’t be surprised if the new Telluride grows slightly compared to its predecessor. Hyundai has stretched the Palisade by 2.5 inches, with the wheelbase extended by 2.7 inches. The added length improves third-row space, and Kia’s version will likely follow suit. The Palisade is also a bit wider and taller than before, which is another reason to expect a similar growth spurt from the Telluride.
As for pricing, the base 2026 Hyundai Palisade starts at $41,035, while the outgoing Telluride begins at $37,885. Expect the next generation of Kia's flagship combustion-engine SUV to narrow that gap.
